Kent School District looking to hire bus drivers for 2022-23

Kent School District (KSD) is looking to hire approximately 10-15 additional bus drivers for the 2022-23 school year.

The District Transportation Team will be hosting an open house from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at the Transportation Building, 25403 SE 253rd Pl. The Transportation Team will be answering questions and conducting interviews with bus drivers for all interested candidates.

Anyone interested can apply online to join the Kent School District (KSD) Transportation Team, transporting approximately 8,500 students to and from school each day.

Pay is $25.41 to $30.03 per hour for part-time positions.

Duties will be to safely transport students to and from school and school sponsored activities. Most working hours are approximately 5:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The district has 125 bus drivers and hopes to hire 10 to 15 more this school year, according to a school district spokesperson.

KSD, like many neighboring districts, is experiencing a shortage of bus drivers and is always looking for drivers, according to a statement from the district. Qualified applicants will receive training from the district transportation team. The driver training program lasts approximately four weeks and combines classroom learning with bus driving experience behind the wheel.

Bus driver training includes:

• Pass the CDL Class B driving test

• Receive endorsements from passengers and school buses

• Learn school bus procedures and legal requirements

• Understand route and map reading

Additionally, applicants who complete training and begin driving for KSD will receive a $1,000 completion incentive.
