Mitcham’s transport company, Kent Couriers, is going from strength to strength

One of the South East’s growing transport companies has made a major investment to nearly double its fleet from 11 to 20 vehicles, creating new jobs and opportunities for customers to move their goods across the UK and in Europe, despite the new challenges facing the industry. Kent Couriers, based in Mitcham, is optimistic about a new financial year after overcoming the operational headaches created by Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic, the current rise in fuel prices and rising prices for goods and services in general . The business recorded an additional £4,000 in expenses last month due to higher fuel costs compared to the previous month.

Kent Couriers is a family business, owned and managed by Keith Phipps, and is a member of Palletways and part of Imperial Logistics (Imperial), Europe’s largest and fastest growing palletized express freight network.

Commenting on Mr. Phipps, says:

“Our team has been working hard to keep vital shipments moving and continue to provide excellent service at a reasonable price. We have seen an increase in pallet delivery volumes during the pandemic, particularly for home deliveries, caused by increased online shopping for items like gardening products and building materials. Rising fuel prices are a concern and this places even greater importance on efficient collections and deliveries, aided by the skills and experience of our drivers.

Despite healthy competition in the areas we cover, we continue to provide excellent customer service to local businesses, winning new business despite the challenges facing the industry. We are doubling our fleet to accommodate additional postcodes in South London and look forward to a positive business year.

Rob Gittins, Managing Director of Palletways UK, adds:

“Members like Courriers Kent demonstrate the importance we place on experienced, well-managed transport companies that have an excellent track record and are highly respected in their region. Kent Couriers is a great asset to the network and we look forward to leveraging his experience to grow our presence in the South East of England.

The company employs 12 drivers and three office workers, including Mr. Phipps’ two brothers and son. Together the team look after business and residential customers in London and Surrey. Kent Couriers joined Palletways in 2008 to help customers benefit from its logistics services in the UK and Europe, as well as additional services including next day delivery, online tracking and estimated time of arrival.

The company is one of over 120 independent transport providers that are part of the Palletways UK network. They benefit from shared expertise and resources across the group to deliver palletized freight shipments to market faster and more cost-effectively than ever before.
