Travel website On the Beach reveals top holiday destinations for people in Kent

We may be enjoying record-breaking heat and sunshine at home this summer, but that hasn’t stopped millions of Britons heading abroad.

Thousands of families from across Kent have joined the big jet-away – the first real mass exodus since before the pandemic.

Curious to find out where people were heading, KentOnline spoke to travel experts at vacation booking site On the Beach.

They crunched the numbers and revealed the top eight places people in the county have gone or plan to go.

In reverse order, they were:

8. Costa del Sol, Spain: Described as having the best climate in the country, Spain’s sunny coast is home to well-known locations such as Marbella and Malaga. With around 320 days of sunshine a year, there’s no need to wonder why the area is a must for Kent holidaymakers.

7. Costa Brava, Spain: From a medieval town in Tossa de Mar, to sandy beaches along a verdant national park in Pineda de Mar, the country’s northernmost coast offers a wide range of landscapes and experiences.

6. Costa Blanca, Spain: Benidorm’s family attractions and famous nightlife are a key feature of this region, but with other sites such as the hilltop castle of Alicante and the limestone crags of the coastline serving as a popular rock climbing location, the Costa Blanca has something for everyone.

5. Barcelona, Spain: With 4.5 km of sandy shoreline and world-class architecture in the city, Barcelona offers a diverse choice of vacation experiences all in one place. Tourists can visit the Museu Nacional D’Art de Catalunya and the Museu d’Història de Barcelona.

4. Lanzarote, Canary Islands: Resorts such as Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca attract many tourists to the island, but it also has much more to offer. Lanzarote has Unesco World Biosphere Reserve status due to its unique lunar landscape.

3.Ibiza, Spain: Known for its nightlife, it’s no surprise this Balearic island made the list. But there is much more to Ibiza than its clubs. The capital, Ibiza Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its Renaissance military architecture. It has 57 beaches.

2. Dalaman, Turkey: Known as the Turquoise Coast, the area has coves, bays and long stretches of sand. The Ölüdeniz complex is home to the Blue Lagoon National Park.

1. Antalya, Turkey: Ranking first, 33% of Kent’s On The Beach guests have chosen Turkey’s largest city on the Mediterranean coast for their summer vacation this year. It has 400 miles of white sand beaches.

The website says it has seen a 114% increase in bookings in Turkey, year-on-year.

Zoe Harris, Chief Client Officer, said: “The cost of living is incredibly low compared to the UK and with the pound getting stronger and stronger against the Turkish lira, it’s now one of the most affordable vacation available.

“It is therefore not surprising to see that Turkey has become one of the most popular destinations for our customers.

“We have seen an increase in bookings to Antalya and Dalaman and with a range of great offers to these destinations, we expect this number to only increase.”
